Recently, I spoke to a group of folks who are working on their own career development. I shared this session with Bronwyn Allen of High Profile Staffing in Dallas.
High Profile provides professional development sessions for the people that they work with – a great practice!
Our session was built around the terrific book Designing Your Life: How to Build a Well-Lived Joyful Life by Bill Burnett and Dave Evans. The authors teach this material in a class at Stanford. What Bronwyn did in designing this session was cool: I spoke, then she led the group through exercises prompted by the work sheets the authors provide on their web site. I spoke; then exercise #1; then I spoke, then exercise #2; then I spoke, and finally exercise #3. It was a fast-paced, fun, and I think useful session for the participants. (Bronwyn, by the way, is high-energy and engaging!).
So, at the end, I offered to send a “basic reading list.” Let’s call this my “Jump-Start Book Reads” list.
If you are a long-time, serious book reader, you will have read most of these. And, if you were making the list, you would likely add other books; and even additional categories. But, here’s the list I created and shared with the High Profile Staffing folks. Take a look – and start reading!
